Therapy Fees – Aled Thomas Psychology, Clifton Hill

I provide professional, evidence-based psychology services for individuals and couples in Clifton Hill, supporting clients from the local community and across the broader Melbourne region. This page explains my fees, rebates and funding options so you can plan your sessions with clarity and confidence.

Therapy Fees

Individual therapy (50 minutes)

  • Standard session: $230
  • Payment is required on the day of your appointment.

Accessing therapy should feel clear and predictable. Below is a summary of my current fees for individual and couples therapy.

Couples therapy

  • Standard session (50 minutes): $260
  • Extended session (90 minutes): $350 (used for the first or fourth session)
  • Gottman Relationship Online Assessment: $100 (one-off fee)

Couples therapy is not eligible for Medicare rebates because it involves more than one person in the session.

Medicare Rebates for Psychology

If you have a current Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP, you may be eligible to receive Medicare rebates for your sessions.

Rebate for sessions with a registered psychologist: around $99 per 50-minute session

Eligibility: up to 10 Medicare-rebated sessions per calendar year

Requirements: referral via a Mental Health Care Plan and review appointments with your GP as recommended

How Medicare rebates work

You pay the full session fee on the day of your appointment. A Medicare rebate is then processed, which reduces your out-of-pocket cost. This process also supports coordinated care between your GP and your psychologist.

Couples therapy and Medicare

Medicare rebates only apply to individual therapy under a Mental Health Care Plan. Because couples therapy involves more than one person, it is not covered by Medicare rebates.

Private Health Insurance Rebates

Some clients can claim additional rebates for psychology sessions through their private health insurance (extras cover).

  • The amount you can claim depends on your insurer, your level of cover, and any annual limits.
  • You cannot claim a private health rebate and a Medicare rebate for the same appointment.

Check your cover

It’s a good idea to contact your private health insurer directly to confirm what psychology benefits are available on your policy before you begin or continue therapy.

Other Funding and Support Options

In some circumstances, psychology sessions may be partly or fully funded through other programs.

• Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) that provide short-term counselling arranged by your workplace
• WorkCover or TAC funding for mental health support related to workplace or transport accidents

If you’re unsure about your eligibility, your GP, case manager, or EAP provider can guide you through the next steps.

Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy

Appointment times are reserved just for you. To keep appointments available and reduce wait times for others, I ask that you provide notice if you need to change your booking.

  • Please give at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.
  • Late cancellations or missed appointments may incur a cancellation fee.
